Tree Health & Maintenance

Picking a tree company to care for your trees is as important as picking the house that you will make your home. The trees and landscaping around your home are the first things seen entering your property. Shouldn’t you be sure that these areas are not neglected?

Since 1928, the name Durdel has meant quality care for your trees and landscape.

Fertilization:One of several tree care techniques, as important as any, is fertilization. Fertilization improves plant vigor, makes leaves grow darker and larger and makes trees less susceptible to certain diseases and pests. Trees growing in the forest need no attention or care. The same tree or shrub planted around houses, garages, sidewalks and driveways will cause restrictions of the root system. This action has a very serious effect on trees since the root system needs all the nutrients available to it. We cut this availability of nutrients down by these restrictions. Even though these restrictions are a necessity for all of us, we can keep these trees thriving with a good fertilization program. Even though Mother Nature can produce natural organic fertilizers to keep the trees in the forest alive, other trees with these restrictions need help to stay healthly.

Pruning: Proper pruning techniques are important for a number of reasons:

  • Training Young Trees: The arrangement, attachment and size of certain branches can be controlled to produce vigorous and stronger trees. Pruning will take advantage of a plant’s growth habit at a young age.

  • Maintenance of Health and Appearance: Pruning can remove dead, diseased, broken, rubbing or crowded limbs. Any of these types of limbs left in a tree will begin to cause decay and rot in small or large trees which will leave the tree an open host for insects of diseases. Thinning of a tree is also a very important aspect of pruning. Thinning increases air and light circulation, which is necessary to the interior of the tree as well as the plants and grass beneath the tree. Good air circulation extremely reduces wind resistance which could cause splitting or cracking of limbs or whole trees.

  • Cabling and Bracing: It may seem that a fork in a tree will not split until it is too late. Storms can cause trees to split and do major physical damage to property. Cabling can prevent this damage from occurring. A rule of thumb to evaluate your risk of a tree splitting is the shape of the fork. If the fork in the tree resembles a V rather than a U, the likelihood that a split can happen is much higher.

The first and most important step in proper maintenance and care of your tree is proper diagnosis. Let us come out and give a free, no obligation, evaluation of your trees and shrubs.
